Comic Book Pull List: May 29 , 2024

This week was my typical pull list: A bunch of Marvel comics... with a Batman comic thrown in for spice. In the Marvel bunch, we got a couple "Blood Hunt" tie-ins, a good number of Spider comics, and the final wrap up to the X-Men 'Krakoa Era'. But Zdarsky and Acuña dropped the final issue of their Avengers Elsworlds comic, so you know that had to be my pick of the week: Comic Book of The Week: Avengers: Twilight #6 Zdarsky / Acuña So, we've finally reached the final showdown between the The Defenders and Red Hull's forces for the soul…

Comic Book Pull List: May 22 , 2024

This was a nice Marvel-only week of pulls. We got a nice crop of Spider books, a new volume of Ghost-Spider Gwen Stacy starting, more solid issue of Black Widow/Hawkeye and Ultimate Black Panther, and I got pick up couple trades I've been lacking: "Fear Itself", and Fabian Nicieza's run on 2021's "Juggernaut: Can't Be Stopped". But after just seeing the cover of this book, I predicted (successfully) that this book would be my pick of the week: Comic Book of The Week: The Spectacular Spider-Men #3 Weisman / Ramos All I need to do is see the Humberto Ramos-drawn covers…

Comic Book Pull List for May 15th, 2024

The was a pretty 'meh' week for my pull list. We got a couple of Blood Hunt event tie-ins and a couple X-comics wrapping up the Krakoan Era. It was so light, I added Brian Bendis' latest comic run so i could play catch up. But somewhere inside this sea of 'meh', Johnathan Hickman popped up writing as one-shot starring one of the coolest Marvel villains out there... so it HAD TO BE my pick up the week! Comic of the Week: Doom #1 Hickman / Greene Fans of Hickman will immediately recognize his signature style—complex storytelling, intricate world-building, and deep, philosophical undertones. In…

Comic Book Pull List: May 8th, 2024

This is the week thast Blood Hunt, Marvel's vampire-themed event really kicked in to full swing. Seven storyline tie-ins were released, and to be honest... they were all pretty much lackluster. Usually in these events, the first few weeks are pretty intense. But this crop of tie-ins just really didn't hit that well. Out of all them, the one that really did stand out but my pick of the week... but for a different reasion: Comic Book of The Week: The Avengers #14 MacKay / Villa There's really noting in comics like when Captain America cries out "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE"! Indeed Avengers comics where…

Comic Book Pull List: May 1st, 2024

I just knew this week was going to be a hard one to pick a comic of the week. We got another issue of Invincible Iron Man and X-Men both tackling the end of the Orchis War. Plus throw in a new Wolverine/Deadpool team-up and new issue of Weapon X-Men and you have some interesting choices to make. But after reading my stack, a lot of those issues just didn't seem to hit their mark... especially with Iron-man and X-Men. So when I picked up the first issue of Jed MacKay's new supernatural/superhero limited series, I was expecting something 'decent'. Boy... was I surprised! Comic Book…

Comic Book Pull List for April 24th

This week's pull list overflows with Spider-Man and X-Men delights—right in my wheelhouse. The Marvel universe dominates, and naturally, Avengers #13 was my immediate choice. However, the culmination of the Orchis War, though promising, faltered at the finish line, leaving a sour taste with its lackluster conclusion that fizzled out like a spent firework. Yet, amid this disappointment, a beacon of hope emerged. My pick for the week shone as brightly as ever, maintaining its consistent quality and delivering the satisfaction I've come to expect. In the tapestry of comic book adventures, there are peaks and valleys, but there's always…

Comic Book Pull List for April 17th

This week, we have an all-Marvel pull list... most of them being Spider-comics. Throw in the very enjoyable Black Widow/Hawkeye and Ultimate Black Panther and we have a nice, quick reading list for this week. But book 5 of Avengers: Twilight dropped, so you know it has to be book of the week! Comic Book of The Week: Avengers: Twilight #5 by Zdarsky / Acuña The highlight of this week's comic selection boiled down to a tough choice between the second installment of The Spectacular Spider-men and the penultimate chapter of Avengers Twilight. As soon as I delved into the pages of Avengers Twilight,…

My 10 Favorite X-Men Storylines From The Comics

Before Brian Michael Bendis showed me the awesomeness of his New Avengers lineup in 2004, my ride-or-die Marvel team was The X-Men. I’d been an avid reader of their comics since I rediscovered them in the mid-90s. Other team books didn’t have the outrageous plotlines and inner-team soap opera drama. And their rogues gallery was second to none. Recently, with the state of comics not being in a great place, I’ve been going back and revisiting a lot of X-Men comics and am amazed that the stories still have a great impact… even on my 2nd and 3rd read-thoughts. Want to…

Comic Book Pull List for April 10th, 2024

This week, we got a nice crop of X-Men comics, leading with Weapon X-Men and the 2nd issue of the divisive Ultimate X-Men. I picked up the Image Comics Spawn-adjacent #1, Rat City. And a couple of Batman comics to round out the pull list. Of course, the new Invincible Iron Man comic came out so it's my pick of the week. Comic Book of The Week: Invincible Iron Man #17 by Duggen / Zircher Even though The Orchis War has been an X-Men/mutant thing, I have to say my favorite war coverage has been inside of the Avengers tie-ins, preferably in Jed MacKay's Avengers, and Gerry…

Comic Book Pull List for April 3rd, 2024

This was a good week for the pull list. Batman's "Dark Prisons" storylines have been pretty enjoyable. We got a new Deadpool #1 from Cody Ziglar. I picked up some cool indie issues (the latest issue of Killadelphia, Void Rivals, and the new witch-themed Under York). And even though the X-Men are finally taking their war to Orchis in the latest issue, the real scorcher in "Fall of The House of X" is coming from the comic of the week...  Comic Book of The Week: The Avengers #12 by MacKay / Mortarino I have really enjoyed Jed MacKay's run on Avengers…
