This Week’s Comic Pull List

Well, well, well! It’s the start of a new year and I’ve rebooted my website to be a lot more manageable than in the last few years. The one thing I missed was doing weekly reviews of my comic book pull list. Comic books have been such a big part of keeping my sanity through these times of COVID and work, that I want to give it the proper respect on my website. So I’m bringing it back. Thanx to all the folks who have been requesting I pick this up again. So let’s get started with the first pull list of 2022…

Book of the week: Inferno #4

To be honest. I haven’t really been a fan of Jonathan Hickman’s run on The X-Men. When I first heard he was taking over the franchise, I was super excited. His runs on The Fantastic Four and The Avengers were the things of legends and I was super pumped for The X-Universe to get the same treatment. And boy did it start off with a bang! Both House of X and Power of X were both epic starts to The Krakoa Era for mutants! Unfortunately, the books that followed (and there were A LOT of them) weren’t that good for me. Even Hickman writing the main X-Men book didn’t seem like a ‘must read’.. at least not like his previous stuff.

Luckily, I didn’t give up on all the X-titles, because Hickman’s big finale, Inferno seems to take off right where House and Power left off. And the beauty is I didn’t really need to know anything about the other X-title in between. You could literally read House and Power and then Inferno and not be lost.

As always, Stefano Caselli’s art is on point. This week he shares duties with Valerie Schiti. What I love the most is the use of the Mystique/Destiny dynamic. Hickman has brought back the danger of this duo and shows how great and deadly the Resurrection Protocols are. Plus, it’s a way to bring some mutant favorites back into the Marvel Universe.
